SC calls Malda incident a calculated attempt to derail the electoral process in West Bengal

On April 2, 2026, the Supreme Court of India took serious note of an incident in which seven judicial officers, deployed in Kaliachak for SIR process, were surrounded by a mob and held for over nine hours on April 1, 2026. The officers were trapped from Wednesday afternoon and rescued only around 1 a.m. after police and paramilitary forces intervened.
