Himesh Reshammiya recalls his journey in the music industry; says, I wanted to work on my own terms

Himesh Reshammiya has spoken about his journey in the music industry, his father Vipin Reshammiyas influence on his career, and his decision to work on his own terms. The composer and singer shared these insights during his appearance on Komal Nahtas podcast Game Changers: The Music Series. The latest season of the podcast features singers, composers and music personalities discussing their creative journeys, inspirations and experiences in the industry. Hosted by trade analyst Komal Nahta, the series explores the stories behind the music and the people who have contributed to Indian cinema. During the conversation, Himesh reflected on his early exposure to the film industry through his father, Vipin Reshammiya, who introduced him to the workings of the music business. He spoke about how his father's professional relationships and experience helped him gain access to opportunities that are not always available to musicians. He said, I wanted to work on my own terms. That was clear! My father was the first person to introduce electronic instruments in India. He did well and went on to become a producer. Whatever I am today is because of him. He gave me access that most musicians dont have, but producers do. During my childhood, all the top people from the industry used to come to my house. He signed a film with Salman, was in talks with Aamir, and did a film with Mithun. I wanted to use the access I got through him to get the 300400 songs I had made to be a part of films. I had 300400 songs before joining the industry, and now I have 10,000. I have my own music label, so I dont have to go out searching for music. Himesh also spoke about the volume of music he has composed over the years. From having 300400 compositions before entering the industry to building a catalogue of around 10,000 songs, he highlighted how his approach to music has evolved throughout his career. He also pointed to owning a music label as a way to release his work without depending entirely on external opportunities. With Game Changers: The Music Series, Komal Nahta continues to bring conversations with music industry figures to audiences.
