Timing of husbands death doesnt deny the right of maintenance: Supreme Court backs widows claim on income from father-in-laws property

The Supreme Court ruled that a widowed daughter-in-law is a dependant entitled to maintenance from her deceased father-in-law's estate under Section 21(vii). Denying maintenance payment on technical grounds violates her right to live with dignity. The court also emphasised the pious obligation of the father-in-law to support her if she cannot maintain herself.
