Trump's midterm setback may ease tariff pressure on India: Report

The outcome of the 2026 midterm elections could significantly boost India's leverage in trade negotiations with the US. With Democrats gaining power, Trump's capacity to enforce harsh tariffs is constrained, alleviating pressure on India. This shift allows India to pursue trade agreements more strategically and carefully, potentially resulting in better deals. Furthermore, new legal constraints on Trump limit his tariff imposition options, enhancing India's prospects in upcoming trade discussions.
