Why are Poland and Ukraine at odds about their history?

Poland has expressed strong disapproval after Ukraine named a military unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), a group responsible for massacring Poles during World War Two. This historical dispute, particularly over the Volhynia massacres, has strained relations despite Poland's staunch support for Ukraine against Russia.
