Delhi HC stays recovery of costs from Prosecution Director's salary, flags 'perennial' shortage of prosecutors

The Delhi High Court stayed the recovery of Rs 5,000 in costs from Director of Prosecution Maqsood Ahmeds salary, observing that personal financial liability would prima facie be improper without a specific finding of malfeasance or misfeasance. The court also flagged the perennial shortage of public prosecutors in Delhi, noting its impact on the disposal of criminal trials and bail matters. The matter will be heard next on February 3, 2027.
