Amur honeysuckle arrived in America as an ornamental shrub; it later became a major invasive concern in forests across the northern United States

Introduced over a century ago, Amur honeysuckle quickly spread across the United States as an ornamental plant, but its aggressive growth has outcompeted local flora, resulting in serious ecological damage. Research highlights that its presence disrupts forest ecosystems, diminishes biodiversity, and correlates with rising tick populationswhich could heighten health risks. Homeowners are urged to consider native alternatives to help curb this invasive species.
