A massive crocodile lurked in Lucys world, and early human ancestors may have been its prey

Scientists have discovered a new ancient crocodile species named Crocodylus lucivenator. This massive reptile lived in East Africa between 3.4 and 3 million years ago. It shared its habitat with Lucy's ancestors, Australopithecus afarensis. The crocodile was the largest predator in the region. Its fossils reveal unique features and evidence of past encounters.
