All lupus cases are linked to a virus all of us carry
A groundbreaking study by Stanford Medicine scientists has identified the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) as the culprit behind systemic lupus erythematosus. This virus, present in nearly all of us, is now believed to be directly responsible for the chronic autoimmune condition. The findings, published in Science Translational Medicine, suggest EBV's role in 100% of lupus cases.
