The name Varalakshmi refers to Goddess Lakshmi in her form as the giver of boons. Devotees believe that worshipping her during the vratam brings blessings of wealth, health, prosperity and family wellbeing. In some traditions, the festival is also associated with the eight forms of Lakshmi, collectively known as Ashtalakshmi.
