Slovenian footballer Luka Majcen's striking tattoo of Lord Shiva on his back reflects a deeply personal spiritual journey. His interest in Indian spirituality began after reading the novel Shantaram and grew stronger following an unexpected encounter with the name Rudra, one of Lord Shiva's avatars. Majcen credits his years in India with transforming his outlook on life and says the country changed him in ways he never expected. His tattoo, which also features the sacred Mahamrityunjaya mantra, symbolises the protection, healing and inner strength he found through his spiritual journey.
