Hawaiis abandoned fishing nets once trapped marine life; now they are being turned into electricity

Since 1996, Hawaii has successfully collected 848 metric tons of abandoned fishing nets, significantly reducing marine pollution. These nets are skillfully processed at an energy plant, transforming waste into usable electricity. This innovative initiative, supported by collaboration among government and fishermen, not only cleans our oceans but also promotes renewable energy. Moving forward, it is essential to focus on preventing marine debris and improving waste management practices.
