Government bill puts Vande Mataram on par with anthem, disruption punishable

The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to include Vande Mataram under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. This move places the national song on par with Jana Gana Mana. Disruption during its rendition will now be a punishable offense. An amendment bill will be presented in Parliament. Penalties will include imprisonment up to three years.
