Desert Ridge High School controversy: Why were 12 football players suspended after backing their quarterback?

Gunner Brewer, a senior quarterback at Desert Ridge High School, was dismissed after changing a play during a game. The decision led to the suspension of twelve teammates who supported him in protest. Brewer changed the play to give the ball to his running back instead of running himself. Head coach Miles Smith accused Brewer of disrespecting him, leading to the quarterback's removal.
