Cash-strapped Pakistan foots India's bill, bears New Delhi's share of Indus Waters Treaty arbitration costs

The financial burden for the Indus Waters Treaty proceedings rests entirely on Pakistan's shoulders, as India stepped away from these talks post the Pahalgam terror incident. The Permanent Court of Arbitration has recognized its jurisdiction over the case. To date, Pakistan has paid over $600,000 representing India's share. India's engagement in Neutral Expert proceedings extended until July 2025.
