An Oregon farmer began stacking rocks at age 52 as a winter hobby; over 17 years, his bridges, castles and miniature landmarks grew into Petersen Rock Garden

Rasmus Petersen created a remarkable rock garden in Oregon after clearing stones from his farm. This garden, initially a hobby, evolved into an artistic monument attracting thousands of visitors annually. Petersen's work faced neglect over the years, leading to its endangered status by 2011. A dedicated family commitment ensured the garden's survival until its recognition as a National Historic Landmark in 2013.
