Karan Johar says the brew is milder on Koffee With Karan as celebrities don't want to go through a PR nightmare

Karan Johar has spoken about how the nature of conversations on Koffee With Karan has changed over the years, with celebrities becoming increasingly cautious about what they say on the show. In a recent interaction with Variety India, the filmmaker observed that guests are now less candid than they were during the earlier seasons, largely because even seemingly harmless remarks can trigger controversies and create public relations challenges. Reflecting on the change, Karan said the show's conversations have become milder as celebrities are more conscious of how their statements might be received outside the studio. I know the steam has become lesser, the brew is much milder. That's only because everyone's very worried. Because you saw what happens. Anyone comes on this show and says even something tiny and it blows up and it's a PR nightmare and no one wants that, he said. Karan Johar notices a change in celebrity entourages Karan also recalled how the sets looked when Koffee With Karan first began in 2004. According to him, celebrity appearances were accompanied by considerably fewer team members back then. When I started Koffee With Karan, and I used to look beyond the stage, there used to be nobody there, it was just an empty set. Now when I look, there are publicists, managers, image-management people, teams. The hair and makeup and entourage has also increased substantially, he added. The filmmaker further revealed that some celebrities now seek post-edit clearances before their episodes are aired. And I absolutely respect that because I would do the same if I was invited to Koffee With Karan because I don't want to go through a PR nightmare. So while our coffee brew is milder, that's only because everyone's worried, he said. Karan's latest comments come amid nostalgia surrounding his announcement that Koffee With Karan Season 9 would be the show's final season. Since its debut in 2004, the celebrity chat show has featured several prominent Bollywood personalities and become a familiar part of the industry's popular culture.
