Shakespeare's Globe will use 14,000 reed bundles for its 10m new roof

Shakespeares Globe in London is set for a major roof replacement nearly 30 years after the reconstructed theatre opened. The 10 million project will use traditional thatching and around 14,000 bundles of reed instead of modern roofing materials. The Globes original roof used 6,000 bundles of Norfolk reeds. The project comes as traditional thatching in England faces challenges including poor harvests, old machinery and uncertain seasonal labour supplies.
