Shah Rukh Khan pushed himself to perfect King song Tu Mil Jaaye, reveal choreographers Piyush-Shazia: He nailed the sync as always

Shah Rukh Khans dedication to getting every detail right stood out to choreographers Piyush and Shazia while working on Tu Mil Jaaye, the song from his upcoming film King. In an exclusive conversation with Variety India, the duo recalled their first rehearsal with the actor and spoke about choreographing the romantic track featuring Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone. Recalling their first meeting with the actor, Piyush and Shazia said, We went for his first rehearsal for his first King song in his gym. And he said, Jab tak main achha nahi karu, please mujhe rehearsal karvate rehna (Please make me rehearse till I get the steps right). He works very hard and makes everyone around him feel special. The choreographers also spoke about how they came on board the project. Piyush recalled receiving a call from director Sidharth Anand, who told them, Youre choreographing SRK and Deepika. He added, Weve had a prior association with Sidharth Anand, and perhaps he saw something in us a different approach. He is the reason we got this song. Actually, we got the offer to choreograph this song one year back! Choreographing Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone Shazia explained that creating the choreography for Tu Mil Jaaye required a different approach because it was not a conventional dance number. It was a challenge conceptualizing and choreographing this song as its not an out-and-out dance number. Its a mood, a vibe song. So, the choreography also had to be in that zone. Plus, we didnt want to keep the treatment as that of a typical romantic song. We wanted to blend romance and the intensity of SRKs character in the film. She added that the focus was on keeping the movements in tune with the song rather than giving the actors elaborate steps. In the end, the actors made the steps look effortless. Piyush said the hook step was designed with Shah Rukh in mind. Tu Mil Jaaye is a romantic track, and since SRK is the king of romance, who better to bring those moves to life? Ed Sheerans rap section and the Cape Town shoot The song brings together vocals by Arijit Singh, Sachin-Jigars composition and an English rap section by Ed Sheeran. Piyush described it as the biggest collab and said the team had to find a distinct way to present the track. Having SRK lip-sync Ed Sheerans part was always in the plan, but we pushed him to do it. SRK, of course, nailed the sync as always, he said. Piyush also credited Sidharth Anand for giving the choreographers creative freedom to work with the songs flow, visuals and transitions between romantic scenes and action. Shazia revealed that the song was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, under difficult weather conditions. It was a challenging shoot as the weather was rough. It was shot in harsh winter and the wind was strong. But the actors and the dancers gave us energy and support. Calling Tu Mil Jaaye the biggest song of their careers so far, the choreographers also spoke about working with Shah Rukh and Deepika. They said the responsibility was to present the actors freshly and appreciated Shah Rukhs willingness to experiment with their ideas. Hats off to SRK for understanding our young approach. He was open to trying out new things, open to our new ideas of how we wanted to shoot the song, of how we were thinking of the visuals for a new SRK experience, they said. The film is scheduled to release on December 24, 2026. Also Read:Ed Sheeran recalls Shah Rukh Khan telling him to make a song for King a day after Tu Mil Jaaye was released: I had to
