Koffee With Karan 9: Karisma Kapoor reveals why Salman Khan didn't let her wear her iconic Pyaar Dilon Ka Mela Hai outfit without a fight
Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoors long-standing camaraderie came with its fair share of disagreements, as the two actors revealed during a recent episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9. Appearing on the show hosted by Karan Johar, Karisma revisited an incident from the sets of their 2000 comedy Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, recalling how Salman had objected to one of her outfits while filming the song Pyaar Dilon Ka Mela Hai. Karisma, who has shared screen space with Salman in several films over the years, spoke about their equation during the conversation. While discussing their off-screen rapport, she admitted, We also used to fight a lot. Salman, meanwhile, playfully described their friendship as the longest living affair, leaving the actress momentarily bewildered. The conversation then turned to Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, directed by David Dhawan. Recalling the shoot in Switzerland, Karisma spoke about the colourful off-shoulder outfit paired with a sheer skirt that she wore for Pyaar Dilon Ka Mela Hai. The actress explained that she had put considerable effort into the look but Salman was not convinced about the costume. So, during Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, the iconic outfit. Very excited with my fashion and to kill it. Hes like, What are you wearing? Im like, What? Ive worked so hard on this outfit. What do you mean? Karisma recalled. Salman then reportedly refused to film the scene unless she changed the outfit. No, Im not giving this shot with you looking like this, he told her, according to the actress. Karisma eventually approached the films director for help. I had to go and complain to David ji (Dhawan, director) that SK (Salman Khan) is not letting me wear this outfit; please tell him, she said. When Karan asked whether Salman had considered the outfit overtly sexy, Karisma explained that he had objected because it was too open and clingy and all. Salman clarified that the issue was not the fitted design but the sheer skirt, whose opaque portion kept riding up during the shoot. I used to say, Pull it down. Every shot, Salman explained, demonstrating how the fabric kept moving upwards and needed to be adjusted before each take. Karisma also acknowledged that Salman had always been protective of her. The anecdote offered a glimpse into their working relationship, adding another behind-the-scenes memory to the stories surrounding their successful collaborations.
