US ends illegal SAVE student loan plan, millions of borrowers to switch to legal repayment options

The US Department of Education has ended the controversial SAVE Plan, impacting 7.5 million borrowers. Those enrolled will be transitioned to legal federal student loan repayment plans by July 1, 2026, with a 90-day window to choose a new option. New plans like the Repayment Assistance Plan and Tiered Standard Plan will be available.
