Indianapolis schools could see big governance shifts: New bill expands mayors role and student services

A new Indiana bill, HB 1423, proposes shifting significant control of Indianapolis schools to the mayor by establishing a new nine-member education corporation. This corporation would manage school property, create a universal transportation plan for all students within IPS boundaries, and oversee financial powers, including tax levies and debt issuance.
