You meet family and friends regularly but still feel lonely? Scientists find a surprising reason after tracking 3,082 people for 10 years

A 10-year study tracking 3,082 older adults found that people who experienced higher levels of loneliness showed faster declines in memory and thinking abilities, even when they regularly met family members and friends. Researchers found that the emotional feeling of loneliness was linked to cognitive decline independently of how frequently participants interacted with others. The findings highlight the difference between being socially isolated and feeling emotionally disconnected.
