Hedy Lamarr was more than a Hollywood star. According to the National Women's History Museum, the Austrian-American actress co-invented a World War II radio guidance system using frequency hopping technology with composer George Antheil. Though ignored for decades and never profiting from the patent, her invention later became a foundation for modern wireless communication, influencing technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.
