Severe winter storm leaves 150 vehicles abandoned as communities rally to rescue stranded motorists in Southwestern Ontario

A severe weekend blizzard paralyzed southwestern Ontario highways. About 150 vehicles were abandoned on Highway 402. Snowmobilers, farmers, and emergency crews conducted improvised rescues. Whiteout conditions and deep snowdrifts made many roads impassable. Traffic halted from Friday night into Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police declared a significant event. Roads remained closed into Sunday.
