Surgical Gastroenterologist Dr Anshuman Kaushal from Apollo Hospital has warned that persistent acidity and heartburn may actually indicate Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), a serious condition that can gradually damage the food pipe. In a recent video, he explained that daily symptoms such as burning, regurgitation, and cough should not be ignored, as long-term GERD can lead to ulcers and Barretts esophagus, a cancer-linked complication. He urges medical investigation and lifestyle changes, noting severe cases may need laparoscopic surgery.
