India may open thorium sector to private firms to boost nuclear energy ambitions

India is exploring the option of privatizing its thorium sector to enhance critical mineral supply chains and advance its nuclear energy initiatives. Legislative measures are being considered to enable selective coastal monazite sand mining for thorium extraction. Additionally, there will be a focus on accelerating research to effectively transform thorium into uranium-233, aiming for significant domestic production increases.
