Hazel Johnson transformed a personal tragedy into a lifelong battle against environmental pollution after losing her husband to lung cancer and witnessing health problems among her seven children. In 1979, she established the People for Community Recovery to demand cleaner air and water in Chicago. She was later recognised a sthe Mother of Environmental Justice Movement.
