Ferry Farm, the childhood estate of George Washington, faced potential demolition for a Walmart in Virginia. In response, local residents rallied together, raising $2.2 million to save the land. Eventually, Walmart consented to sell the property, which the Kenmore Foundation received as a donation. Now recognized as a National Historic Landmark, Ferry Farm features archaeological finds and a replica of Washington's childhood home that opened to the public in 2018.
