In February 1905, the Duluth Aerial Ferry Bridge debuted to facilitate travel over a challenging sandbar. This innovative structure enabled rapid transport of individuals and cargo across water. However, with the rise of cars during the 1920s, its limitations became all too clear. As a result, the city opted for a modern vertical lift bridge.
