Numbers Dont Lie: Yashasvi Jaiswals Case for the T20 World Cup 2026

The T20 World Cup is a special event in the 2026 cricket calendar. While the story of India's previous T20 World Cup victory is still fresh in everyone's minds, another World Cup is already upon us. One of the surprises of India's T20 World Cup 2026 squad is the absence of Yashasvi Jaiswal from the team. He was being counted as an automatic occupant of the spot vacated by Shubman Gill in the squad. Till a few days back Jaiswal was in the plans in both the white-ball formats and now he has been reduced to a standby status. The reasons may be manifold but the fact is that he is one of the most versatile batters India has for the international circuit. His superior white ball cricket impact has been ignored. In 22 T20I innings, he has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.32. His IPL performances also underline his T20 credentials. Recently at Vizag, Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his maiden ODI century and helped India to register a win in the decider against South Africa. He reached 50 off 75 balls but reached his hundred in just 36 more balls. In the process he became the sixth batter from India to be a centurion for India in all three formats (Others: Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill). Since his Test debut in 2023 against the West Indies, in an away tour, Yashasvi Jaiswal has grown from strength to strength. He is, indeed, an investment for Team India, a blue chip and needs to be handled with care. It took him more than one year to play ODIs after making his Test and T20I debut in 2023 but needed just four innings to score his maiden century in ODIs (From India only two scored theirs earlier: KL Rahul on his debut and Manish Pandey in his third innings, while Kedar Jadhav also took four innings). His centuries across formats: Tests: He scored 171 on his debut against the West Indies in July 2023. He has since scored multiple Test centuries, including double hundreds. T20Is: He scored his maiden T20I century (100 vs Nepal in 2023). ODIs: He scored an unbeaten 116 against South Africa in December 2025. Jaiswal recorded the feat of hundreds in all three international formats, at a few weeks short of his 24th birthday (23y 343d) and only four players joined this club of batsmen at a younger age (Brian Bennett - 21y 324d, Ahmed Shahzad - 22y 127d, Shubman Gill - 23y 146d and Suresh Raina - 23y 241d). The youngest Brian Bennett of Zimbabwe was about a month short of his 22nd birthday when he scored 111 against Tanzania in a T20I in Harare in September 2025. A feat which has been overlooked is that Yashasvi Jaiswal has won MOM Awards in all 3 formats. From India who have recorded the feat: Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Ravi Ashwin, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav,Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Mohd Siraj, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill and now Yashasvi Jaiswal. Overall centuries in all 3 formats have been recorded by: 6 From India: Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal 5 From Australia: Shane Watson, Glen Maxwell, David Warner, Jos Inglis, Mitchell Marsh 4 From Sri Lanka: M Jayawardene, T Dilshan, K Perera, P Nissanka 3 From Pakistan: Ahmed Shehzad, Mohd.Rizwan, Babar Azam 3 From Zimbabwe: S Raza, B Taylor, B Bennett 2 From South Africa: Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock From West Indies: Chris Gayle, Shai Hope From New Zealand: Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill, From Ireland: Kevin O'Brien, Paul Stirling From England: Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan Also Read: Live Cricket Score 1 From BanglaDesh: Tamim Iqbal,
