On New York's Fire Island, scientists fenced deer out of two sites; over 4 years, young lone star ticks were reduced by 48.4%, but adult ticks were not controlled

Ticks, especially the lone star variant, are becoming increasingly worrisome for those who enjoy the great outdoors. Studies point out that although deer herds influence tick populations, other factors are at play. A research effort in Connecticut demonstrated that reducing deer numbers led to a decrease in tick populations and Lyme disease instances. Moreover, the emergence of Alpha-gal Syndrome, associated with lone star tick bites, introduces additional health hazards.
