Millions of borrowers hit with student loan payment hikes heres whats changing

The SAVE student loan plan is ending soon, and millions of borrowers will need to pick a new plan. Monthly payments may go up, especially for families and lower-income workers. The most stable option now is the Income-Based Repayment (IBR) plan, while a new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) will start in 2026 to offer cheaper payments for some borrowers.
