Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation just slashed its Microsoft holdings by nearly 65%, move raises eyebrows

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation cut its Microsoft stake by 64.91% in Q3 2025. It sold 17,000,000 shares worth about $8.8 billion. This caused a -17.7% portfolio impact. Microsoft traded at $510.13 on average. The stock is down -2.19% in three months but up 21.70% YTD. The foundation also sold all 1,420,072 Crown Castle shares and all 755,089 UPS shares. It trimmed 2,358,460 Berkshire Hathaway shares. Gates $49 billion portfolio still remains heavily concentrated. His long-term plan is to donate 99% of his $106 billion wealth.
