Watch: Saving Olive Ridley turtles: On patrol with Chennais Marine Elite Force

Every year between December and April, the waters off Chennai turn into a nesting ground for Olive Ridley sea turtles. Since early December, an unusually high number of Olive Ridley turtles have been found dead along the coast. Trawl nets operating too close to shore trap turtles as they surface to breathe, pulling them underwater until they drown. In Chennai, a newly formed Marine Elite Force has been deployed to patrol coastal waters and intercept trawlers entering restricted zones.
