Cash deposits below 10 lakh can still attract an Income Tax notice. Here's why

The 10 lakh threshold under Rule 114E only determines when banks must report cash deposits through the Statement of Financial Transactions (SFT). It does not prevent the Income Tax Department from seeking information about deposits below that limit where required under the Income-tax Act.
