US ends 540-day grace period for immigrants after work authorisation expires

In a significant policy shift, the US Department of Homeland Security has abolished the 540-day automatic extension for work permits. This development results in immediate loss of work authorization for many, particularly affecting H-4 visa holders and asylum seekers, even while their renewal applications are pending. Moreover, the USCIS continues to face notable delays in processing these renewals, leading to a legal challenge from impacted parties contesting the new regulation.
