India sugar production view slashed as El Nino hits, USDA says

The USDA has slashed its expectations for Indian sugar production in the 2026/27 season to 29.5 million metric tons due to a forecasted rainfall shortfall. This predicted deficit is set to impact sugarcane's sucrose level and decrease the area available for effective harvesting. Moreover, looming drought conditions are likely to disrupt milling operations by early 2027.
