Virar building collapse case: Civic officer Gilson Gonsalves arrested; 17 died in tragedy, officials knew structure was illegal

Vasai police have arrested Assistant Municipal Commissioner Gilson Gonsalves in connection with the Virar building collapse. Investigators found Gonsalves and another official were aware of the illegal structure but failed to act. The corporation had also granted a water connection and collected taxes despite missing legal documents.
