Watch: Vande Mataram case: SC examines religious objections to singing Vande Mataram

The Supreme Court has said the government can decide the scope and length of the National Song, but cannot violate religious freedoms or impose criminal penalties on those who conscientiously refuse to sing Vande Mataram. The observation came during the hearing of Carnatic vocalist T.M. Krishnas petition challenging the 2026 amendment to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.
