Stroke patient denied emergency surgery by hospital suspecting viral infection; he tested negative elsewhere but died before treatment; court orders hospital to pay Rs 1 crore

A Telangana consumer commission has held a Hyderabad hospital and its treating doctor liable for the 2020 death of a PhD scholar who suffered a major stroke. The hospital denied him emergency surgery after a screening test suggested a viral infection, but he tested negative twice at the next hospital and died within a day, having lost the critical treatment window. The commission ordered Rs 1 crore in compensation to his parents.
