Psychology says people may feel more confident after making a decision, even when the decision hasn't worked yet

The psychology of decision-making suggests that how we feel while making a choice can be very different from how successful that choice ultimately turns out to be. Before a decision is made, the brain must weigh multiple possibilities and competing outcomes. Once a choice is made, however, attention shifts from considering alternatives to navigating a single path forward.
