New liquor shops to keep 500-metre distance from schools, religious sites in West Bengal

West Bengal has tightened the norms for opening new retail liquor outlets, increasing the minimum distance from schools, colleges and religious institutions to 500 metres in municipal areas and 1 km in other locations. The earlier limit was 300 metres. The revised rule will apply only to new outlets, leaving existing liquor shops unaffected.
