Two decades after a $64 million settlement funded coastal recovery, Californias Palos Verdes reef is thriving. Engineers placed 70,000 tons of granite rock across 30 acres of seabed. These elevated structures prevent shifting silt from smothering marine habitat. Today, native giant kelp has returned, and fish biomass across the rebuilt ecosystem has increased by more than 150 percent.
