In 1948, a male rhesus monkey named Albert was launched on a V-2 rocket by the US towards space in an early animal flight test. Albert I reached about 39 miles, but the rocket did not reach the Krmn line. His life signs were not recorded, and the mission failed. The flight helped prepare for Albert II.
