New York City is using an innovative Cloudburst strategy to help manage heavy rainfall by turning everyday public spaces into temporary stormwater storage areas. The city is investing US$95 million in Homecrest, Brooklyn, with the project expected to manage nearly 30 million gallons of rainwater per year. Sunken basketball courts, porous surfaces, green areas, and underground reservoirs can capture or temporarily hold water during intense storms.
