Coral reef thought to be dead for 60 years found alive off Africa's Benin coast. Scientists spot fish and coral deep underwater

Scientists have rediscovered a coral reef off Benin that was first reported in the 1960s but was believed to be dead. Using modern sonar and underwater cameras, researchers found living coral and reef fish more than 50 metres below the surface. The discovery highlights how little is known about deep-water ecosystems along West Africa and raises questions about other hidden reefs still waiting to be found.
