Comet 41P stuns scientists by nearly stopping before spinning backwards

A comet 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresk astonished astronomers by almost halting its rotation and then spinning in the opposite direction. Observed through the Hubble Space Telescope, the comets rotation interval changed from 20 hours to 46 hours between March and May, then reduced to 14 hours by December. Scientists, including David Jewitt and Dennis Bodewits, discovered that uneven jets of gas acted as natural thrusters, resulting in the rotation reversal.
