Centre authorises district collectors in eight regions to grant Indian citizenship

District collectors in Gujarat and other regions can now grant Indian citizenship. The government notified new rules authorizing these officials to process applications. Applicants must be deemed fit and proper persons by the collector. All pending applications will be transferred to the relevant district collector. Applicants must appear in person to take the oath of allegiance.
