A tiny piece of bronze protruded from an ordinary English field in 2003; archaeologists followed it underground and uncovered a 1,400-year-old royal tomb

Archaeologists discovered an ancient Anglo-Saxon burial chamber in Prittlewell, Essex. This well-preserved site contained a wooden coffin and numerous valuable grave goods. Gold crosses found within the coffin indicate the occupant was Christian. Scientific dating places this princely burial between AD 580 and 605. The identity of the man buried remains a mystery to researchers.
